Sydney Wakelin, 17 years old, attends Oakridge S.S. She has been a member of the Byron Believers for 9 years and recently fulfilled a surgical co-op placement at Victoria Hospital. She also worked as a literary facilitator working one on one with 20 children who struggled to read and she assisted in running community programs to promote literacy. Sydney is currently a Page with the London Public Library. She is also a volunteer in the Alzheimer Outreach Day Program.
Erica Butler, 17 years old, attends Oakridge S.S. She is a peer mentor and facilitates Social Justice and Culture for Learning groups at school. She hosted Oakridge’s first Female Empowerment Day and was able to raise enough funds to supply all female and gender neutral washrooms with menstrual products. Erica received the Student Lead Award and grade 10 Citizen Award. She holds the position of Student Trustee at the Thames Valley School Board. She is also a long time member of the Byron Believers.
