Photos November 11th 2021 Event

On November 11th the club held our monthly event at the Hellenic Community Centre. We welcomed Mr. Michael Baker, Manager of Museums and Archives for Elgin County as our featured speaker.
Mr. Baker’s presentation ‘Cultural and Historical Perspectives on London and Elgin County, provided many insights into remembrance monuments and plaques in our area.
A number of past presidents were welcomed to the event (photo on the far right). Club members also spoke on the Community Service projects supported by WCC London.
As it was Remembrance Day representatives from the Royal Canadian Legion, Byron branch also joined us in recognition of the importance of the day.
President’s Message – Sept 2021

A Message from the President:
A. The WCC Board members are excited to welcome you to our first speaker presentation and reception at the Hellenic Community Centre, 133 Southdale Road West, London on October 14, 2021. The speaker will be Dr. David Williams. There is plenty of FREE parking and there are many handicapped parking spaces close to the front door. As per government regulations, all members planning to attend must be double vaccinated, and vaccine passports will be checked at the door by the Hellenic Community Centre staff. Members will be expected to wear masks, except when eating or drinking.
B. As per government regulations at this point in time, the Hellenic Community Centre is allowed a maximum of 300 fully vaccinated people in the room that usually holds up to 750 people. If that number changes, I will communicate that change to you. Members will be seated at tables for the presentation and for the reception afterwards. The Hellenic Community Centre staff will serve the refreshments at the table so that members may remain seated.
C. If you do not feel comfortable attending with a large crowd at this point, we also plan to offer a YouTube video of each speaker’s presentation. The YouTube link will be provided only to those who have renewed their 2021/2022 membership. Beginning with October’s speaker, the link will be emailed to members. Please note that the presentation will be on YouTube for a designated period of time only.
D. By providing the video recording, as well as the live presentation choice, we hope we are able to meet your safety and comfort levels and you will renew your membership for the 2021/2022 season.
E. The September newsletter will be emailed later and it will include details for Dr. David Williams’ presentation, book signing, and reception. It will also include a link for Jesse Rodger’s virtual presentation on September 9th in case you were unable to watch it on Zoom.
Important Message for Membership Registrations:
A. Please mail your membership application form and cheque by October 4th. This will avoid long lines at the Hellenic Community Centre on October 14th which is a safety concern. A membership form is attached to this email.
B. Since we are only allowed a maximum of 300 people in the room, we will accommodate paid-up 2021/2022 members first at the October 14th presentation. We suggest you arrive early; the doors will be open at 1 p.m. for vaccine passport checks and entry into the presentation room. We will only sell individual tickets if we still have space for non-members after 1:50 p.m.
C. For your safety, the doors to the room will close at 2 p.m. sharp and no latecomers will be able to enter. Please understand that the Hellenic Community Centre staff need to check vaccine passports and this must be done before the doors close.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work to find solutions for the unique challenges of Covid-19. Please email me at wccldnpresident@gmail.com if you wish further clarification on the presentations or have further questions.
Stay safe!

President’s Message: Sharon Miller

I am honored and delighted to be the President of this wonderful Club that has been in existence since 1910. Thus 2021 begins our 111th year! The Club has never closed but this year, due to the pandemic we are operating in a different format.
We are offering Free virtual speakers beginning March 11 2021 on the Zoom platform. Please check the February newsletter on the Home page of the website for specific details.
The Women’s Canadian Club Board is also continuing its community involvement. We are proud to have been one of the collectors in the latest can tab collection of 2.5 tons of aluminum . This amazing accomplishment will purchase the ’50th’ wheelchair. Also, we supported My Sister’s Place warm clothing drive through information posted on our Facebook page.
Youth Focus committee , chaired by Cathy Cave gave Emerging Leader Awards of $250 each to four grade 10 and 11 students selected by the TVDSB, the Catholic DSB and Blyth Academy.
The Board has openings for members to be nominated for various committees. For example: the Publicity, Speakers, and Technology committees are actively involved during this pandemic in locating interesting Canadian speakers and in providing an excellent virtual platform for the presentations. Thus, more members would be very much appreciated!
Please contact Eleanor Leatham, Nominating Committee Chair at wccldnpresident@gmail.com if you are interested in being nominated .
I enjoy hearing from you! Email me at wccldnpresident@gmail.com if you have questions and/or suggestions for our Women’s Canadian Club London.
