Who We Are

Women’s Canadian Club is a non-profit, non-political, non-partisan and non-sectarian organization; and it welcomes women and men as members.

Our Mission:

Women’s Canadian Club, London, Ontario is a membership-based speakers organization providing monthly meetings on topics dedicated to preserving our Canadian identity, increasing our interest in matters affecting the welfare of our country, informing us about Canada’s part in world affairs and acknowledging the outstanding accomplishments of young people in our community.

We believe:

  • in Canada,
  • that it is important to provide a forum and audience for passionate speakers,
  • in broadening our minds by learning about many diverse topics,
  • that it is important to foster an interest in public affairs,
  • in cultivating an understanding of Canadian culture,
  • in providing a forum for global issues, and
  • in supporting the youth in our community.

Our 2024-2025 Speaker Series will begin in September 2024 with a full line up of exciting speakers. Meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of each month from September through March at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel (300 King St, London ON) on the 2nd Floor, Ballroom. In April, we hold a Spring Luncheon with special pricing.

On November 7, 2024, the Women’s Canadian Club of London is pleased to welcome DAVE and SUE WILLIAMS, the third speakers of the 2024-2025 Speaker Series.

Also joining us will be NHIAL DENG our Youth Speaker this month.

Speaker presentations will begin at 2:00 – 3:00 pm.

Keynote Speakers

Dave and Sue Williams

“An Adventure in the High Seas and the Journey Within”

While in their early 50s, Sue Williams, without an adventure-seeking bone in her body, and her husband David, without any real blue water experience, left their sons, cast off from Hamilton Ontario in their 37 foot sailboat, and headed east. Destination the North Atlantic Ocean.

Sue has written a compelling memoir, Ready to Come About (Dundurn Press), of their improbable, often perilous adventure.

She will read from her memoir and, with David, will present a slide show of their life-altering journey.

Youth Speaker

Nhial Deng is a South Sudanese refugee, storyteller, youth advocate, and community organizer.

He spent 11 years in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya and now attends Huron University in Canada.

As a youth leader and community activist in Kakuma, Nhial initiated several projects in the camp to help young people build better futures, such as the Refugee Youth Peace Ambassadors and SheLeads Kakuma. He is passionate about the role of education, mentorship, and social entrepreneurship as powerful tools for young people to build better futures and communities.

His vision is a world where peace, education, and opportunities are not luxuries but fundamental human rights for every child everywhere.

Today, while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Global Studies and Communications, Nhial is active in the social justice space, driving change at the grassroots level in humanitarian and displacement contexts and advocating for refugees, peace, gender equality, education, climate justice, and youth leadership at the global level. Besides these, Nhial is also leading Canada’s Refugee Education Council, a youth advisory board on refugee education for Canada’s Minister of International Development.

In recognition of his community work and advocacy efforts, Nhial has received numerous accolades, including the World Vision Hero for Children: Courage Award 2023, Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Award, and, most recently, the prestigious Global Student Prize 2023.

We thank our sponsors, TD, Western and Horizon Retirement Living.

We look forward to seeing you in November!
