Who We Are

Women’s Canadian Club is a non-profit, non-political, non-partisan and non-sectarian organization; and it welcomes women and men as members.

Our Mission:

Women’s Canadian Club, London, Ontario is a membership-based speakers organization providing monthly meetings on topics dedicated to preserving our Canadian identity, increasing our interest in matters affecting the welfare of our country, informing us about Canada’s part in world affairs and acknowledging the outstanding accomplishments of young people in our community.

We believe:

  • in Canada,
  • that it is important to provide a forum and audience for passionate speakers,
  • in broadening our minds by learning about many diverse topics,
  • that it is important to foster an interest in public affairs,
  • in cultivating an understanding of Canadian culture,
  • in providing a forum for global issues, and
  • in supporting the youth in our community.

The Women’s Canadian Club London is very pleased to welcome our Keynote Speaker,  Lorraine Jardine on Thursday, January 15, 2026, 2:00pm – 3:30pm at the Best Western Plus Lampighter Inn and Conference Centre.

Lorraine Jardine – “Changing the World – One Girl at a Time” – Hekima Place – Kenya

Join us in person for an inspiring event with Lorraine Jardine. Dive into the powerful theme: “Changing the World – One Girl at a Time.” It’s all about making a difference by providing a loving and supportive home for Kenyan girls who have been abused, abandoned, neglected or orphaned due to HIV/AIDS. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to connect, learn, and be inspired by Lorraine’s incredible experience.

Lorraine grew up in Welland, Ontario, and met her husband John, at Western University. After graduating, they moved to Milwaukee, where Lorraine earned her teaching degree at University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin, and then taught high school English. They also lived in Toledo, Baltimore, and Brantford, before returning to London, where John became City Engineer for London and Lorraine taught in Dorchester and Strathroy. They were a skiing family, so both sons and their wives and grandchildren live in the beautiful state of Colorado.

Just as Lorraine was retiring from teaching and contemplating how she could help with the devastating AIDS crisis in Africa, she read in the London Free Press about Hekima Place, a home for Kenyan girls who were orphaned due to HIV/AIDS. Lorraine volunteered there for a month in 2007 and has been involved ever since. She has served on their Board of Directors and volunteered at Hekima Place in 2023 and 2025. Its mission has expanded to provide a loving and supportive home for vulnerable girls who have been abused, abandoned, neglected, or orphaned. Since its founding in 2005, Hekima Place has increased its impact through the addition of a school for not only their girls, but also for children in the surrounding community of Kiserian, near Nairobi.

Lorraine enjoys skiing, kayaking and reading and is a long-time member of Women’s Canadian Club London, including 10 years as a Board member.

AFRICAN CRAFT SALE: 1p.m.-2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.- 4 p.m. Donations and sales may be made by cash, cheque, e-transfer and credit card. All proceeds go to Hekima Place.

Youth Focus Speaker

We are celebrating the 25th Anniversary of our Youth Focus Program, created by Cathy Cave, President, 1999-2001.

Join us on January 15 to hear youth speaker Kyla Johnston-Potter. She is a Grade 8 student at Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts, where she is the President of the Student Council and an active member of the Social Justice Club.

Kyla is passionate about helping others and making a difference in her community, and in 2023 founded Project Rainbow an initiative to get more LGBTQIA+ – inclusive books into school libraries.

The project has been a great success with over 200 books being donated so far. Last year Kyla created two podcast episodes featuring authors of inclusive books and continues to fundraise to purchase more books each year.

Kyla was featured in the London Free Press, and received a Leading Women Leading Girls award from MP Peggy Sattler for her work with Project Rainbow. She is also a talented performer, especially in musical theatre where she has performed in a number of musicals with the Original Kids Theatre Company in London. She recently received a Medal for Excellence from Conservatory Canada in Vocal for receiving the highest mark in the province on her exam and participates in the London Kiwanis festival each year.

In her spare time she plays bass guitar in stage band and is an avid reader.
